The aims for this module are to: • develop your own personal writing and enjoyment of writing; • assess various techniques for constructing arguments; • locate and evaluate primary and secondary research material.

Having successfully completed this module, it is possible to show knowledge and understanding of:

  • Better develop your thoughts through the writing process;
  • Appreciate contexts that are different purposes for writing
  • Use independent and self-reflective judgement that is critical

The module will introduce students to principles of rhetoric, composition and discourse while they relate to their writing that is own and reading literary texts. It will engage with a selection of texts, including classical and historical texts on rhetoric, historical and essays that are contemporary.

Teaching and methods that are learning

The module weekly allocation of two one-hour teaching periods is supposed to be used flexibly for lectures, seminar and small group discussions. A selection of formative and summative writing exercises will undoubtedly be used, with a few micro-writing exercises and peer assessment exercises taking place in class times. This module includes a Learning Support Hour. This will be a flexible contact that is weekly, designed to support and react to the specific cohort taking the module from year to year. This hour will include (but not be restricted to) activities such as for instance language, theory and research skills classes; group work supervisions; will someone write my essay for me assignment preparation and essay writing guidance; assignment consultations; feedback and sessions that are feed-forward.

Dates marked with an asterisk (*) are scheduled for the South County Center in Great Barrington; those sessions marked with two asterisks (**) will be held at McCann Tech in North Adams. All the sessions will be held on BCC’s Main Campus into the Center that is testing K-213.

College Level Reading and Writing:

A 2.7 High that is cumulative School will place the student in college level reading and writing, and that student will not need the Accuplacer for Reading and Writing.

Any GPA below 2.7 will still require the Accuplacer for Reading and Writing.

Students are strongly encouraged which will make a scheduled appointment for the earliest session that they could attend. Practicing before you arrive at take the Accuplacer is a good idea.
